The purpose of this cousre is to help teachers explore and apply new ideas and approaches within their own educational contexts. Participants will actively contribute to their school's development of bilingual education policy and practice, including the effective use of first language. The course also aims to demonstrate professional development by equipping teachers to integrate content and language in their teaching and learning. By the end of the course, teachers will enhance their ability to support bilingual education and improve instructional practices for diverse linguistic environments.
(1) Critically engage with key theories, concepts, principles, and challenges in bilingual education.
(2) Develop effective and reflective practice in leading learning in curricular subjects through an additional language.
(3) Focus on helping bilingual learners to achieve both content and language learning objectives.
The course is designed to provide educators with the tools they need to effectively teach bilingual learners and create inclusive and supportive learning environments. The course seeks to meet the increasing demand for educators with expertise in bilingual teaching, expand career prospects, and promote cultural diversity in education. This course is unique in its emphasis on practical bilingual teaching strategies, culturally responsive pedagogy, and personalized support for educators to thrive in diverse classrooms.
3 hours per week instruction; 3 hours per week mentoring/reading; participants also expected to complete activities in their workplace and develop a portfolio of evidence, practice and reflection, totalling to 3600 words, to be presented to Cambridge for the certificate.
Required to be a practicing educator within a school; evidence of practice is expected.
